Re: Charity begins at home, my mama used to say...

Good thinking Pat, though I am afraid some genuine charities will suffer as it is an excuse not to give if there is one. I seem to keep adding more each year, but I shall watch out for the news of overpaid Executives.

Charity begins at home, my mama used to say...

I used to donate to this one particular breast cancer charity until I read that the female who serves as its CEO gets $675,000 a year plus benefits. That amount would take care of ten breast cancer patients' surgical care. About the same time I read in the paper that same charity was catching flak because they stopped sharing with Planned Parenthood. So I switched my donation to Planned Parenthood.

Yes  Ciel I have a big enough trouble overwintering myself.

What you say is true, sadly when money is concerned it

creates its own problems. Oh, dear it is pink in the morning

Re: Jimmy

I don't think I can give you a halo after this comment. Try to keep a check on this for future reference, remember above two is not good news. A few quick checks do you ever say to someone 'nice to have met you?' When it isn't . Do you ever swear when the cat is trying to use you as a scratching post ? Do you ever think Oh no it is Monday tomorrow and I have not thought up any chuckles. If you answer yes to these, you pass/

Re: CCT

Right Naut , I agree, but would you give to a charity if the Boss was receiving a better slice of the cake than the Prime minister. What you say is true, but not good news to those donating a few pounds. Of course in commercial enterprises it is a different ball game. For instance the chemist who won a competition finds it a bit different running a Trust but I see he has just come off the bottom after many weeks.

As so often, I disagree with the vox populi, LOL. Charities should be run by capable people, and capable people must be paid accordingly. Thieves should be punished, of course...And your poem is enticingly surreal...

Interest rates are low here in the United States as well...You capture the emotion of the speaker so well in this poem.

I'm afraid I'm an easy touch when it comes to charitable giving.

Now you have me thinking back about what lies I might have told today.  I'm sure there must have been some that slipped out.  Disappointed smile

I too have become extremely leery of various charitable organizations over the years, only because I have read about scandal after scandal involving 'pinchers' and embezzlers helping themselves to some of these funds. If I can't be guaranteed that the money goes to whoever it's actually supposed to go to, then I refrain! And two lies a day? Is that right? Well, I never lie! No, wait. That's a lie! Well, I never lie on purpose! No, wait. That's another lie. Oh, well. There's my two for the day I guess . . .

I don't give to those big charity organizations any more. Wiley and I discuss it each year and give locally to some thing worthy or to someone we know needs help...really needs help. Have made our choice this year...Sorry old chap. Put your name back in the hat for next year.

There have been some lively scandals over charities

that take huge percentages of donations as 'operating expenses' so that very little is spent on the actual charity.  Now, one can check out the 'report cards' of various charities to make sure one's giving to a hungry child instead of a greedy exec.

Your roses are lovely, again today! It's a nice shade of pink!

You could start another business, over-wintering tender plants.
