Re: Re: Small children like Dr Seussish poetry

It's interesting to know that the fellow who was Dr Seuss didn't much like kids.

My favorite of his books when I was a kid was Bartholomew and the Ooblek.

There's a book that isn't his, I don't recall who wrote it:  Hand Hand Fingers Thumb.  It's very clever with rhythms and rhymes, quite a delight to read aloud with some vehemence.

Re: Small children like Dr Seussish poetry

Well sadly Ciel I have hardly ever read poetry, but I will look the old Doc up. I just wanted something to send to a children's home, I think probably animals would be safer. Archie was trained by me from twelve years old, he picked native cunning up from my other brother as Archie came from the sticks and was quite innocent.

Re: Jimmy

Trouble is Jimmy they have all passed the youthful stage. Young chaps have yet to realize time tells on one. Hope it remains calm for you, perhaps if it keeps raining you will be lucky.

Re:

Well Carlyn the spell checker here is definitely American I guess we all speak a bit differently OH Ar. An old lady once asked me 'Got any pays?''  'Pays? ' I was only a young lad. 'Yes pays in tins.' 'Oh you mean peas,'  She gave a laugh. 'Well that's what we call them.'

CCT

Seems to me Archie needs some steady exercise, if a little bit of rearranging things makes him moan and grunt...And bumble bees are not supposed to be able to fly either, but they do - I've seen it myself! So if they can do it, maybe there's still hope for the rest of us...

I like your children's poem and I find those smoke alarm things so annoying. I always set one off when I do some cooking.

Poor Archie! I think I can hear his grunts and groans all the way over here! And make sure Arthur knows and understands that the smoke alarm is indeed the smoke alarm . . . and is not to be used as a timer!

Interesting poem, especially for a girl (old girl, but a girl nonetheless)

who used to dream she could lift her arms and levitate, skim like a kite above the treetops. It was something I never entirely forgot, and so the star of your poem who receives such wise lessons from the bee, the blackbird, etc., is a child after my own heart.

Rainy days are good days to get some much needed work done...Some wise advice there in the poem.

Small children like Dr Seussish poetry

with a lot of rhythm and funny rhymes.

But there is a kind of literature, including poetry, for older children, even adults who remember childhood. Edward Gorey produced that sort of art and story, with a macabre twist.

Speaking of macabre twists, that old Archie is a classic!
