Re: Oh, I loved the Arthur story, and thank you for not explaining the

Well veggies are quite expensive here Pat and a lot of con tricks encouraging folks to plant potatoes in pots or bags, but with compost it works out nearly £1 pound per potato I would imagine. I use cheap methods of course but it still costs quite a bit to produce anything on a small scale.

Re:

Hi Lion I am afraid I do have to net most things, those pests are pretty general.

Oh, I loved the Arthur story, and thank you for not explaining the

unfamiliar terms. It's wonderful to imagine it - a crust of bread in a warm clobber... How that parallels the chill and hard life that went with it.  And the Walter take me to the altar had a nice story, too.

As for the gardening, your description makes me want to fill in my "water feature" pond and set up a small greenhouse instead. Now that would be very expensive and impractical in a world where I can buy it all fairly cheaply, but fresh dug new potatoes...

I admire your gardening prowess...  such veggies as I tried to grow this day fell victim to cats, slugs and wee creepy things.

Re:

Well we like to try different veggies Jimmy. Winter one has to rely on frozen of course, or those from warmer climes. No those old codgers can't stand the sight of each other.

Re: Justi

Yes Justi the  tunnels are handy. They use them in hot countries ,but covered with nets. One has to try to keep the best subjects if possible.

Re: Annitica

Ha, ha, A. I spelled twelve wrongly. Yes they are Dahlias at present I have not grown these much before. but they make good cut flowers.

CCT

You're definitely a gardening pro! And I'd love to hear more of Uncle Arthur's experiences in the Workhouse and elsewhere...

I loved this one so much. I would love to browse around in that tube to see what all you have there and how it works. I am like you I keep flower and shrub seedlings over they are too expensive. Yours sound great.

You seem to be growing an amazing assortment of vegetables, any combination of which ( with or without cheese ) sounds wonderful! And ya gotta love Uncle Arthur and Walter! Do they know each other . . . ?
