Kabu...

Even with the Internet and IPads and all the rest of the modern devices we have at our disposal now, its still nice to sit down with a real newspaper on one's lap with the day's news....

Nostalgia for the newspaper - this story's right up my alley....

Back in the day (1890-1920) the "Intelligencer" (our local paper) was a class act and a real news source. These days it's high school sports and AP releases. To get our local news we buy the Telegraph, published in Alton, 20 miles away. (I know about the olden days at The I because I transcribed the archived news from it for our Leclaire historic website.)

I miss the days of the paper boys, on every corner of downtown Kansas City, hawking their headlines.  That was a big part of my childhood.  And, I loved getting my turn to read the newspaper.

There are 4 local papers here, you can get them all over the state, two from Salt, one from Ogden up north and the other from Provo where Texas just lost to BYU (see how I slipped that in so cleverly) and we still have all four, papers I mean...But no one reads them anymore?

Kabu

As always I love your Aussie stories! BTW, we still have a local paper here, and it's even delivered, once a week, by a very nice youg lady! The problem is that Bennie absolutely hates her - to him she's just another postie, and he detests those on principle...

I remember seeing in the movies a lot of those newspaper sellers. I have yet to see one in person, probably because they were around before I was born...It is amazing how much things have changed over the years.
