Re: The circus in Australia

Now that you mention Australia, I don't remember any Kangaroo acts in the shows I have been to. However, recently there was a big outcry when our 'beef' was found to be actually Kangaroo, Water Buffalo or Horse or even Lion's meat packaged and sold to us as  beef. Many people today are wary of anything labelled beef; they go for lamb or chicken to be safe.

Re: Good sporting events to let off some steam

I agree with you JimmyA. Sports, especially contact sport, where we can bash each other senseless, is therapeutic sublimation where we turn a socially unacceptable urge, like hurting someone, into socially acceptable acts, for which you can even be paid; like in professional football and boxing

Re: Allow the child in you to take over sometimes

In Transactional Analysis, a Psychotherapeutic tool, we are encouraged to let the Child in us to sometimes to take over from the Parent and the Adult in us, as the Child is the only one of the trio who still remembers how to play- let your hair hang down now and then; otherwise you end up like that guy in the news yesterday who 'worked himself to death'.

"Cirque du Soleil"

is the new circus, built entirely on making the acrobatics into a visually stunning spectacle. And the clowns are still funny!

I remember going to the circus as a child too, and believe it or not, I never really took to them, regardless of the acts involved. And you're right . . . if people knew what cruelty and torture these poor animals went through solely for their entertainment, they would never have gone to those circuses in the first place! Give me a good sporting event instead . . .

I am glad that I was not there for that...I am glad that I am not a child anymore as  well.

I guess that lion had had enough and the rest is history....I always went to the circus and took my kids to the circus...in Australia they were pretty small events actually.
