It reminds of Granny of the Beverly Hillbillies. But, that was a way of life.  Until my brother went to prison and my uncle in a nursing home, they still hunted and loved to kill and eat possum, raccoons, squirrels, deer and birds.  They preferred that to store bought items.  I think that had much to do with their marital conflict.  They were appealing to their wives, but the wives did not like wild meat and were expected to prepare it the way country women did and live that life similar to Amish people.  I could never get it over to either that it was forcing ways of living that was undesirable.

Good to hear from you. I loved the story. This was the sustance of country folk a lot of them before food stamps or during the depression. A nice memory to bring forward.

Haha - that kind of experience would stay in your memory. The old folks made a huge impression on us youngsters with their stories. I'd been told the same about snapping turtles. We didn't eat possum, but we did have turtle soup now and then.

My grandfather hunted squirrels and had my grandmother cook them. I couldn't eat that either. I love these sort of family stories though.. So many memories out there..
