Yes - I agree with the others. It may not change anything, but just knowing what had really happened would be interesting, and you never know - it may explain a few things.

I definitely would be looking at anything I could find if it were my Dad.

but it is your history and you have the right...sounds like this special Ops. was very secretive and like Wiley's records in the cold war in Europe, buried deep and hoping that no one would ever go looking.

i mean it seems to me that it is possible that the way your dad became had this terrible affect on all of your lives.

I have never watched the Military Channel before. What you wrote about sounds interesting.

Pat...

We don't get the Military Channel, but I like to watch the occasional documentary on warfare on the History Channel...My FIL rode in a tank from one end of Italy to the other when the offensive push was underway....

Perhaps the bombing of Dresden was to just to demoralise the nation . I don't think anyone thought about what had really happened. It was the mentality of war kill or be killed. I wonder where the buzz bombs were perhaps it was a name given to some that made a sound as they came down. Not the ones that flew across the channel and suddenly the engine cut out and one just ducked.

Re: Naut - the Tralfmadorians...

I did read Slaughterhouse Five. And now that you mention it, I remember it was about Dresden. I suppose I'm not the only one wondering if it had no military significance, why the Allies destroyed it. I know there have been explanations, but pique and a desire for revenge hardly seems to me to justify that hellfire.

Pat

It won't change anything, but finding things out is always interesting all in itself. And when (or if) Henry got to Dresden, it must have been after the Allies bombed the city and all its inhabitants into gravel – no Allied units had made it that far by Feb of ‘45. (Although the Tralfamadorians may have been there, LOL, which you may know if you’ve read Slaughterhouse Five.)

And no, there were no V1 rockets produced at Dresden, which had been declared an ‘open’, i.e., undefended city, without any military significance. Historians agree that the bombing of Dresden was an act motivated by other than military considerations...
