Re: JimmyA,

At least here, the trees are used to the winds.  The ones that couldn't take it are mostly long gone, and the strong ones with deep roots remain.

Sandy took the ones that couldn't hold on.  Those that did resist Sandy probably won't be taken out by lesser winds. But maybe there's a tree expert who could take a look at yours, determine how well they are rooted, and how strong they are, and put your minds at ease.

Re: Pat,

We're pretty safe in this neighborhood, it's about 15 miles from the Black Forest fire, and there is a lot of concrete in between, a lot less fuel for the fire, so you don't need to worry on that score. But the loss of homes and all they contain of people's lives, that is certainly heartbreaking.

My wife and I used to enjoy a cool breeze once in a while, but after Sandy, whenever the winds seem to be "picking up," we start to panic! We just can't afford to lose anymore trees . . .

I've been worrying a bit about your safety what with all the fires

out there - it's heartbreaking to see those forests and homes wiped out. Take care. :)

Re: Naut,

Yes--the big one, the Black Forest fire is about 15 miles from here.  But our immediate area is not at risk.

Ciel

I hear they have some huge fires in some parts of Colorado, and I wonder if your area is at risk as well - I certainly hope not!

No smoke here, but clouds have arrived and it is cooler today.
