Re: CCT,

I suppose it's because it's a big country, with room for lots of things to happen, and in all the variety  there is.  But it does seem like an awful lot in the past few years.

Goodness there always seems to be a natural disaster somewhere in USA. Sad about all the trees being destroyed and homes. I suppose folk always think it cannot happen here.

Re: Kabu,

I feel just the same way.  Sitting here on my quiet deck, looking out over the peaceful evening, hearing a kid somewhere laughing... and 15 miles away, people's homes going up in flames...

I am so glad none of these fires are near you but they are terrible

and my heart and prayers go out to the suffering people and animals.

Re: TAPS,

Yes, it's so sad to see forests destroyed, that will take years to grow again.

Re: JimmyA

Every time I look at the news, it's worse.  The fire jumped from 400 acres yesterday to 7500 acres today, at the most recent report I've seen.  It's a very fast-moving fire, they're saying, and people are getting out just ahead of it.

Re: Annicita,

I have not yet heard what started this fire, though there have been lightning storms.  One fire near Estes Park last summer was caused by wind rubbing electrical wires against a wooden surface. I remember one from my childhood, a small fire in a tree, quickly put out, started by a squirrel said to have been smoking in bed.  Apparently, it had gathered up a cig butt with some leaves and carried them to its nest.

It's a shame they don't have some kind of training video for campers....maybe it would help cut down on the number of fires.  relieved to hear that you are ok...stay safe

Yes, my wife and I have been following them on the news, and to date, it seems as though thousands of acres have already been lost, and a substantial number of homes as well. We haven't heard anything about the death toll . . . yet! Terrible! And Mother Nature doesn't seem to be helping matters either! Glad you're at a safe distance from it all . . .

I really hate to see parts of Colorado burn every year.
I would hate it a lot more if I lived there and the fire was encroaching upon me and mine.
