when you are raised in a christian, church going house you can either decide to go to church or not believe and its hard sometimes to know how you feel.  All three of my kids have grown up to be very moral and good people and they were not raised in church except when they were with their grandparents the church goers

A good plan to me. I like brief and to the point as your husband indicated. As females we tend to concern ourselves with many details when often men use the KISS METHOD of KEEPING IT SHORT AND SIMPLE...some like to say sweet.

Yep - and if Kabu hadn't written that, I would have.

What Kabu wrote in her comment makes a lot of sense to me.

teach them love ..of self and others and you teach them all a man

called Jesus ever suggested. Oh and LOL, throw away the lists. Kids when they come teach us more than we teach them. i had all the lists and stuff, they became who they are in their own way and their own time.

I forgot to add - I won't even attempt to give you any advice on how to raise your kids! I get the distinct impression that you'll do very well!

Hubby's answer was the best one possible, period! And I'm in the same camp as you two - atheist with respect to all deities ever created by the human mind, after that I might   retreat a bit into agnosticism...But for most practical purposes, I am an atheist Christian...

My approach to this problem of religion and kids

was to tell them, "This is what I believe. But you don't have to believe it just because I do. A lot of people believe a lot of different things.  And anyone who tries to tell you that they know what God thinks, is lying."

I never kept them from the fundamentalist Christian neighbors, but tried to help them keep what they heard, in perspective.

From time to time, I asked them what they believed.  Some of their answers were amazing!
