Re: It's a girl band who makes edgy, rebellious music

i agree about finding a better name...something more indicative of what they were rebelling against or what they preferred...to me it gives the wrong impression...and i won't give help in legitimizing that term...

It's a girl band who makes edgy, rebellious music

and they named themselves as they did to get these exact reactions.  Personally, I get the point, I don't care for the music, and I could care less about the name.  It's just words. And I don't care to give those gals or anyone that much power over my feelings and thoughts.  Indeed, they could have chosen far more offensive words.

I wonder why those women chose that name for their group.

Perhaps it referrs to cats in Russia A. One does not hear it much here, but I know years ago a friend who visited USA was offered pussy so that about sums it up. Things may have different meanings such as Pussy willow. Not nice though.

Re:

I see....Perhaps it doesn't have the same connotation as here....but one must think of the image your name creates when choosing it

It is very offensive language, to me also.  It is taken from some political protesing women in Russia who were singers and named themselves the Pussy Riot.  Two of the three are now in prison for the name and the political reasons.  I can't imagine why they would give themselves such a name to begin with, much less a country that strict.
