I love Lee Child's books

I've been reading them for a while (long before the movie was announced). And I was furious when they announced Mr. Cruise as the lead - it was impossible to see him in the role.

That being said, I actually saw the movie. While he didn't look the part, Cruise nailed the nuances of Reacher's personality. His movements and little "quirks" were done just right, to the point that I stopped noticing the physical inconsistencies.

I don't like Tom Cruise on principle, but will give him credit (grudgingly) for a job well done playing Reachers.

It is all about money of course, I have no idea why but Tom Cruise remains

a big box office draw. Still, if they came to me wanting to buy my book!!!!!!!!ut what book, i hardly ever finish something these days. Sigh!!

Yes but wasn't Audrey sweet, I saw a photo of her just a while ago and she still looked extremely graceful.  I suppose once one sells the rights to a story everyone is going to get the best return avaiable.

Once the goods are sold,

no matter what promises were made, the author has virtually no power, no leverage or artistic control over what was once his/her work.

I really wish if a studio or director wants to alter a story, they should write their own instead of messing up an author's work.  This is my big gripe about Peter Jackson's LORD OF THE RINGS. I suspect, had it been made by a British company, it would have remained more true to Tolkien's work: over the years, I've noticed that the British seem to have more respect for an author.

And if they call what they are making, history, then it damn well ought to be historically accurate.  (ELIZABETH: THE GOLDEN AGE comes to mind.)

I love the Reacher stories, and no - can't picture Tom Cruise in Reacher at all, at all.

Pat

Wasn't Audrey Hepburn marvellous in 'Breakfast at Tiffany's'? Not that I have anything against Marilyn, but I think she was perfect for that role, no matter what Truman Capote thought! And I must confess - I never read the book; a grave omission, because he was such a good writer, but there's time yet...
