A terrible massacre of little children and adults, depressing indeed. We have stiff laws in Canada about gun ownership but this still happened.

"The École Polytechnique Massacre, also known as the Montreal Massacre, occurred on December 6, 1989 at the École Polytechnique in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Twenty-five-year-old Marc Lépine, armed with a legally obtained Mini-14 rifle and a hunting knife, shot twenty-eight people before killing himself. "(Wiki)

Pat

I feel I ought to add to the debate, but I really can't bring myself to do so...Like TAPS, I'm just depressed, and I know it will be a struggle for me to overcome that...

Unless one is to walk around with the gun in a holster or the hand

is isn't really going to save you. I can never find anything from the bottom of my handbag...let alone in a draw...ask me to hurry and I take three times as long.

Australia has really strict gunlaws and yes, if someone really wants to kill me they will. But at least they have to stop and find/ illegally buy a weapon and that just might deter them.

Wonderful post and I pray for the sensible people in the States like my friends here are the voice of reason that eventually prevails.

I'm not a person who gets depressed, but this has depressed me.... (Not your post, but the situation, the incident yesterday, the availability of guns, little children in a world gone mad).  I feel as if I will never become free of depression again.  It's like being stuck in a horrible nightmare.

Well as you may know Pat Guns are more or less banned here unless one has a licence.

It does not stop those who really want to get one, but being illegal it is a deterrent. It does seem to happen, but why little children? Such a waste.

Pat, you are eloquent and right!

Gun sales in Colorado have sky-rocketed since the theater shootings, with the mentality that "I coulda stopped that guy, if I'd had a gun!"

We could have all stopped that guy, and this one, and the others, if we had not made it so easy for them to have guns.
