Well Arthur as  soft heart Kabu towards creatures. He never lets me forget when he was a boy he had water beetle in a bowl. It kept swimming up and down and as a little joke I threw a tiny pebble at it and it must have bonked it one. It lay on the bottom of the bowl And Arthur was stricken with sadness. I was a monster.

Well conveyed poignancy and longing in your poem, CCT.  Feathers can be misleading.:) And yes, the sands do become a bit too warm and comfy after awhile, even if you wear eye shades...
