I've been trying to explain about the fairy dust in my house for years but nobody is buying it. Enjoy your trips down memory lane - so much fun to stroll along with you!

Newpaper boys? Are there any left, anywhere? But a nice warm Aussie Christmas I wouldn't mind, even if it meant I'd have to be hanging upside down all the time! I think snow is vastly overrated...

More golden memories; that sounds like a perfect idea for the Holidays that should be happy and warm.  Some of the golden, old times were better by my standards.

I’d like them here and now to call Black Friday the Day after Thanksgiving again, that is, the first day of the Christmas season love. BC-A, Bill’s R®st

yes some of the hottest time of the year was at Christmas, even though it was winter.  Now all we hear is the Black Friday sales and most of them are starting on Thanksgiving day. How things change over the years

That "fairy dust" sounds like the sight to see...I imagine those later hours on Christmas Eve were a bit hit with those who had some last minute shopping to do.

I think that the slower time meant that things became more special.  We seem to be somewhat jaded now

The only good thing about shop buying is one hands over what is says on the article.

One has to watch out for postal charges that sometimes double the price, I always try to get free postage, well half heartily.

I always do my Christmas shopping on Christmas eve, the people seem nicer on that night for some reason.

I've missed your wonderful stories. This one is lovely. I remember when stores closed early and weren't open on Sunday too!

I remember in NZ how the shops closed so early and everything was so quiet after that..loved the story Kabu - brings back memories too.

I loved this story. We did not have store openings on Sunday either. And five o'clock was it. I remember. Oh the times were much nicer I think.

Kabuiepie-;)

Pretty special post love remembering our very special first date, and the post just was full of interesting items. That bit of shopping I did online recently, from Hazelden, was grand larceny I won't be Christmas shopping there love.

Shopping, especially with a gaggle of kids along, was a dreaded chore.

Not so bad now, with gift cards the recipient can use online.  There's a lot of noise this week about some of the big box stores opening on Thanksgiving night. I don't understand why all the brouhaha, unless it's a publicity gimmick. People don't have to shop just because the store's open. I really enjoyed your description of Christmas in the summer time and long ago -- that was very appealing and reads like great fun.

Great Post! It seems that stores claim to make life easier with all there products and inventions but it also seems we are more stressed and find less time for others than we did many years ago. I still do many things in the 'Old Fashion Way' and yet appreciate the microwave.
