How priceless is love and protection for a child?  No amount of things could make up for it.  An adult may crave the same things, I suspect.

It is sad that there is so much abuse out there in the world...I consider myself very fortunate to be a part of a loving family.

yes I grew up in a loving home too, but totally different from yours. But today we are alike in many ways, except you got lucky getting a good husband.

Love this post! If only we could give all our children the same.

Yep you just about sum it up Kabu, it was rough, quite disciplined, but one never felt anything but a part of a family. I think this applied to quite a lot of kids in that time. One did not expect very much and therefore was not disappointed. Who knows, I wonder how you would have developed if the wool market had not provided you with what seemed like golden opportunities. Just a thought, I expect you would have made out into someone just as charming. Well a bit of flattery to take the rough edge off that tough Sheila.

Truly a beautiful childhood Kabu. It reminds me of the way things used to be at the ranch. I must get up in four hours to go to the clinic for group so I will say no more except good night.

That's so wonderful that you can look back and feel as you do. My childhood was filled with ups and downs, but overall, I shouldn't complain! And you're right . . . material things can never be a substitute for strong love, because love conquers all!

In so many ways, even in tough financial times, childhood in the

days before everyone had TV, Cable, the Internet and cell phones had us closer to nature and somehow safer - at least those who weren't living in big cities. Guess the fact that I think so proves that I've become a full-fledged fogey... :)

Every child should have a childhood of love and innocence.  I think the opposite is outnumbering the positive situations now.
