Amen to this post, TAPS. I say Thank You every night when I crawl into my warm and comfy bed. Maybe it's from having worked with the homeless who slept in the streets or squats that it means so much to me now. No doubt you would have coped. As you write here, the strength and determination show up when we need it.

it isn't just thanks for all the good things in your life that you are capable of, the nurse would be out there helping where and for as long as you could.

humans are so adaptable....not saying they should have to in such sad cases but also the human heart is very large and there is already an outpouring of help in many ways.

I think the cold will be the greatest worry Taps one has to keep well wrapped especially if older people cannot assess a source of warmth and everywhere will be damp for weeks. At least the community spirit is good and I don't beleive for one minute that you would'nt cope.

I do not know how I would do in that situation either. Fortunately when my power was lost for a day, I went to my mother's.

TAPS

This is a beautiful, loving and giving post. I am surprised you have not come much closer to such a disaster living in Tornado alley they way you do.

I guess I think that because we tornadoes is a constant with us and we always get some sort of brunt of the coastal storms, those not really bad. We are not prepared for snow and had a 9 day power outage from snow almost 20 years ago, it was a bummer. We had some kerosene heaters the neighbors came to our house brought their freezer food we cooked it on grills and warmed by kerosene heaters and slept on pallets. Showers were a problem... well perhaps that is not really true they were non-existent. You get through it! The power of God is great.
