On the cell phone the weather and ads could get in the way of making emergency calls. Some features are interesting love. BC-A, Bill’s R®st

This was a great post, it put me in mind of our old party line and witing for whoever to get off so I could call my girl friend. Can you imagine us putting up with that now?

Justi is right love, we are just as proud to have you. We had one of those crank telephones too, but I can't remember our rings though. Great post love.

Honey I know how that telephone service went from a to z it seems. I am not surprised that Wiley fixed it. I got my oven repeared this week.... not the service man, no George replaced the thingy and it works. Aren't we happy we have them. I have a secret, they are just as proud they have us....

We had one of those on the farm too. My grandmother (and she'd slap me silly for writing this) used to stand there and listen in - and shush us if we even lifted our eyebrows!! Great post, sweet Kabu! I'm not surprised that Wiley fixed your problem either. That's just Wiley!!!

Oh, I remember those party lines! I also remember the really long cords. Thought I was so cool when I could wander around the kitchen while talking on the phone.

yes the telephone was a great invention, and I am still around who remembers the party line, that has a whole new meaning these days.

I remember when I was young and at school they brought out the black one to teach us how to use it! It seemed so foreign to me since we did not have one in the house! I think I was 18 before we got one! Love how Wiley showed them what real ingenuity can accomplish! BRAVO! sam

Hopefully we won't have to go all the way back to tin cans and a line of string!

Your memories are sweet. I remember party lines and Grandma telling me that others should be careful of sharing their business on a phone. Good for Wiley!

Good old WiLEY, and just a word in your shell like, I told B.I I might have to kick your gnomes over, but I was just bragging, I think we all ought to go bit mad at time and shout at each other, it does not seem natural to be so polite, you can start if you like. Well I saw my psychiatrist friend yesterday and she wanted me to give her a dwarf pink. "Not on your nelly.' I told her, anyway I was not in a very good mood, that's the way we are out here. TYP,

I remember party lines and those little wooden cabinets...

In fact, in my 20s I worked as an operator for the private telephone exchange on campus. When callers dialed the main number, I would put the calls through by plugging a wire into the plug. This was the '60s, but the technology was right out of the '40s. Hard to think how changed it is, and how even faxes are now old school.
