I'm glad I didn't have Horace as my Poetry Professor Proper!  I may never have written a single poem! I absitively & posolutely love playing with words

Hi,abanerjee. Its a  great summary & i agree that poetry flows from the depths of one's heart.Jab mann kuch ketha hai sun leti hoon, pero kar phir shabdoin ki mala syahi se raag leti hoon.....

I so agree that emotion has to come from the heart before it can be portrayed in verse! I have studied poetry in great depth and I totally concur with the thoughts and observations of this post! The poet has to go through a lot of experiences to convey his thoughts in proper verse, form and the like! I truly liked the breakdown in steps, it makes a great deal of sence and in a way it is a blueprint to a successfully written poem! Another fine post my Bro! So sorry I have not been out to read much of late; I have yard work that had to be finished before the rains and snow become the norm in my valley! Today is my last day of work and I am one happy lady, too! Just a few weeds to go in the front yard and the back yard! It is a pain to get through it all but the rewards and the head start on spring makes all the difference! Have a great week, too! Shelly

How brilliant his way of thinking as poets are to my opinion those with the gift of heaven inspired religion abanerjee - heavenly seers for otherwise how are they imbued with such talent and gift? I was totally captivated by this summary.

Horace had his moments of genius.  Thanks for sharing this

Everyone knows how very good you are with the written word, and as for me despite knowing a little from what I have read and understood, I can never follow or remember the rules. To my way of thinking, the best is to let the sincerity of the feelings follow in words as they will. And ah yes, words tend to wrinkle and show their age.

Re: I absolutely agree with everything here especially the emotions

When that happens, Kabu, when an outburst almost screaming to be expressed, it is lyrical automatically. Then no rules need be followed, and that is evident from your poetry whenever you write them.

No wonder I seldom write poems these days--there is so much involved and as you say,
"Words perish with old age."

I absolutely agree with everything here especially the emotions

One must be singing, laughing, in awe, crying, anger.....one of these while writing a poem. Dear friend I am not much good with the exactness of metre and such but I know to only write when i feel deeply that there is a poem screaming to be written.

Things dormant in our mind must come to life once in a while, otherwise they tend to get stale and forgotten. Repetition, while at times boring, adds to memorablity. The cotton-wicker will burn bright as long as oil is put in constant supply. Isn't that enlightenment?  Thanks for the visit and comment.

It has been a while sense I have thought so seriously about poetry, but I do agree with what you are saying, or have brought to our attention and I thank you for the enlightenment.
