I well recall playing battlefield on bivuoac in the u.s. army... we must have made lots of noise but i've no idea how close any neighbors were... ?

I certainly depend that Wiley knows artillery fire when he hears it; There's no doubt that is exactly what it was. They bypassed a few rules and regulations, hoping no-one would say anything, even if they noticed. There's a reason Canadians have a reputation for being passive! Obviously Wiley's call put a stop to it. I bet y ou won't hear it again soon, now that they know someone is listening

Kabu, I get the feeling it may have been an army exercise...
They just denied it likely because it was "supposed" to be top secret.
.here we had t'storms off and on and some freezing rain rattling in the eves troughs..

Wow, really odd, Dear Kabu
I wonder too what's really going on! There was a kind of similar situation here years ago; big, explosive, house rattling booms, sometimes several in a day; the whole town was affected. There are coal mining interests not far from here, but the company in charge denied they were blasting, saying they have to abide by a lot of rules and regulations, etc., but one does wonder. Also have an army base in the vicinity. This began around the time Saddam H. invaded Kuwait and there was a military feel to the sounds; maybe imagination. Stopped when we started bombing Iraq, as I said, one does wonder!
