NecromancerNorthStar is sure right about that!
Think how dumb herd animals are, and why smarter animals herd them.

There does seem to be an overall dumbing down. Whether by accident or design -one thing's for sure, a dumber population is a more easily controlled one.

As a stranger to America..

.. Personally, I think the way Americans present themselves (through TV shows, at least) has changed a lot. I look at the change of the TV shows, where it used to be ones like 'Beverly Hills 90210' which caused controversy in countries like Indonesia due to the lifestyle sample it showed to audience, to 'Friends' or 'Seinfeld', which were perceived as how Americans act as social beings, to ones like 'CSI' where human interactions and dilemmas over personal and professional issues are as much a problem with Americans as with people in other countries.

In Indonesia we have a 'rice plant' philosophy, which is the more knowledge you have, the lower you will bow.. just like the rice plants when they are ready for harvesting.. I see it the same way with America.. the older and wiser the people are, the more they respect others and try to find similarities to connect with each other and other people in the world..

There have been monarchs who came to a throne by inheritance
who were mad or not much interested in being kings. Or they were just not suited to it.  There have been presidents, popes, and CEOs that were not fit to lead or control.  It made some people very happy: the people who got to really be in charge because they "managed" the incompetent with the shiny crown. If you vote in a "bimbo" (female or male) then you better look real close at who is standing around that person.  If you elect a "bimbo" who just won't be managed then you will see real trouble. Especially if you have also filled your congress with bimbos.

Re: I,d never be vulnerable to the best efforts of any cult, to recruit me.

Northsage, this is an interesting take on the topic.  I wasn't referring to cults but to the 'dumbing down' of America, but I see the connection.

Deliberate cult-makers are insidious, but less subtle and long-term than the entertainment industry and others who mess with a healthy mind for the simple sake of profit.

Ultimately of course, the effect is the same: brainwashing.

I,d never be vulnerable to the best efforts of any cult, to recruit me.
Ceil,
I guess that I'm just naturally, NOT a joiner, and it would take months of poor nutrition and heavy-handed peer-pressure, sleep deprivation, etc. to confuse me about my own instincts. I'd never stay the course, long enough to become affected mind-control tactics of any charismatic cult leader, and I don't have a religious molecule in my whole body, so they'd be wasting their time with me.
One must wonder how the few surviving members of Koresh's dupes when asked about that murderous "cluster-something" in Waco, Texas, regard themselves now, for having been willingly misled and for having fallen for such obvious crap, resulting in the deaths of so many innocents.
I'll never understand devoutly religious people. Even superstitious behavior makes more sense to me, than religious beliefs! None +.000001%.
