I like the fact that your father does the laying off in person, too! I was never a fan of the pink slip, so impersonal! But the bottom line is to take care of the family business and if it means people end up leave then it becomes their decision! Your father is one of the fairest people I have got to know through your writing! He is molding you as well to be a great businessman on your merit one day, too! Thanks for always stopping by my blogs, it means a great deal to me! I am doing a bit better these days! sam

Your father is a man of character
I would imagine he exhibits that strength of character in all areas of his life, not just in business. Very admirable.

FSI,
I am in awe of your company's ability to help its employees maintain their dignity while still somehow retaining your own. These are tough times indeed, but when so many are handed insult on top of injury, it's comforting to know there are those with a spirit of understanding. That is what makes America great at her core.

Seems to be the trend in America these days, laying off and letting go...the time for re-inventing ourselves is now. Your father's a good business man and knows what it takes to stay afloat in an economic environment filled with uncertainty.

You should bottle your Dad's way of dealing with employees and sell it, it would do well...

hard to have to sack folks, but your dad does it the courageous way, which is definitely the right way to go.
