I'm glad to hear that Uncle Richard finally learned how to look after himself...

Diabetes is one of those maladies that must have constant monitoring and balancing.
Those who don't realize that or fail to live by it, usually don't live very long at all.

It took him long enough to realise that he really could help himself. Glad he discovered that eventually.

Yes, diabetics really need to eat on time.
Even without any health problems, not eating can have a major affect on us.
I didn't realize this until I was in my late teens, seeing my boyfriend every day and not eating (didn't want him to put too much out of his pocket for me), and by the time I would get home at night I was so tired and hungry.
I hardly ate, as usually I chose sleep over food, thinking I could always eat later when I woke up. I started to see the effect it was having on me. I lost a lot of strength that I was never able to regain.

Former Student Intern
R With borderline diabetes but some consequences (as chronicled in the Light Out of My Toe poems) I eat a good breakfast, a bagel twist coffee combo or sandwich if there’s time for lunch, and something for dinner. And, cereals, using their ADA diet numbers have vitamins and fiber as needed. BC-A, Bill’s RJLst

I am glad he came to the realization that he needed to take care of himself through a balanced diet! It was very scary the things you described that could have caused him great harm! I think he was very lucky indeed! Sometimes it takes a good scare to wake some folks up! And very wonderful that he has not returned to the hospital for so many years, too! You did a fine job of writing this up as well! sam

I am glad that he learned....and I get upset when I see diabetics eating
sugary treats too.....it is a very terrible disease especially if a person won't follow proper procedures.

Good thing he did not go into a comatose FSI and yes why test luck. Prevention would be the order of the day.
