Re: Re: Re: Timmy,
I am sure that that is exactly the reason.

Re: Re: Timmy,

I imagine that will make it easier to accept.

Maybe the people who officially change things like that got tired of explaining the link between warming and ice ages.

Re: Timmy,
It is my understanding that the term "global warming" has now been officially changed to "climate change"

Timmy,

If you live in the Northern Hemisphere, especially the northern Northern Hemisphere, I suggest you invest in warm gloves...   See my next post if the cold weather that seems to be clinging to spring this year, in this part of the world, seems to indicate that global warming is not an issue.

It is ironic maybe, it is counter-intuitive, but in fact, it makes sense.

I sure would not mind some global warming this morning. After 70 and 80 degree days, it won't get much past 50 today. This morning I scraped snow off of my car!!!

Naut, this is exactly the point I am stepping around:

The cause is not as important as dealing with how life is going to be different, how our strategies for survival as communities must adapt to changes that are happening now, regardless of who's or what's to 'blame.'

The essential point is: change is inevitable, and may be upon us with surprising suddenness. The essential question is: how do we prepare from where we stand today?

I will look at your link, thanks for digging it up!

Here's what my ice-cold (pun fully intended, LOL) science-orientated mind tells me this: yes indeed, we are experiencing climate change, and even a warming - but there is no real scientific agreement as to the cause!

There are, however, strong emotions, political passions and political fortunes attached to both sides of a debate which most of the contending parties enter with rather limited knowledge...

Of course, I am no expert in this field either - I just know enough to know that nobody knows enough...

Finally, one last tidbit: came across a paper by a reputable physicist the other day (unfortunately I didn't make a note of it, and have no time to dig it up now) which suggests the possibility that our warming may be due to a change in solar activity - apparently our star goes through cycles of increasing or decreasing intensity...

Oh, to hell with it, I decided to dig it up. Here it is: http://www.john-daly.com/solar/solar.htm

It's a fairly technical paper, a Canadian one, from a Halifax scientist, and well worth reading.

Just one little quote: "The dominant causal factor, meant here, is the anthropogenic greenhouse effect. However, there is no convincing evidence that this is an outstanding factor that clearly dominates all other factors which could have an influence on climate. The results presented here indicate clearly that the sun’s varying activity is at least a non-negligible factor and probably the really dominant one."

So much for now...

I can't trust the government to be forthright on the issue! It will probably catch many unaware! sam

Re: Once again, money is the bottom line here...

Seems to me, Pat, money/wealth/stuff is always, and has always been for most humans the bottom line, right along with power.  Both of which are actually about the delusion that we can have complete security in an uncertain world.

Once again, money is the bottom line here...
Until the plutocrats find a way to profit from some clean technology, we'll be burning gasoline and choking ourselves on carbon monoxide.
