Your story is up close and riveting. I've heard other stories, from other parts of the world too...scary. My mom would say when I was young. "yes Vicky, people are good, but not everyone, remember where there is good, bad exists too". "You must know the difference". That's what my spiritual beliefs are based on....and doing the research, in getting the facts straight. (which I should do more often, honestly) I have a lot to learn still...Flower

Heartbreaking - your experiences as a child
and the world's condition.....Your writing is most excellent, Tzippy!

Tzippy as a young child you were so 'observant' and this astonishes me.  You were 'wise before your time' and it makes me want to reach out and hold you - to cuddle.  What you tell of what you saw 'amazes me' simply. Your adventurous, inquisitive young mind to me showed 'spirit' - The responsibility you showed - again, blesses my heart. And the peace and resolve yes, blesses me with such admiration for 'life' period... as you did lie ready - at peace-  to 'sleep' amongst such 'threat' over your lives.  I feel privileged to know of you.  Elyse

It is so sad the things young have had to endure through the ages when power struggles abound. They get caught in the middle and then used as well. sam

Oh yes, there aren't too many options when one is attacked. Knowing the situation Israel was in the nation had no choice but to fight back.

I've seen tee shirts on gay activists that say
"Silence is death." And it's true, I think. If people would talk to one another they might iron out their differences, but making assumptions about another's motive is dangerous. We tend to ascribe our own worst fears to the "other" and act defensively and that sparks a bad reaction.

never having been in such a position of terror,a war zone, my life in such
danger, it is impossible forme to understand fully. I can have empathy for such a situation though. It must have been horrific. You are writing so well it is a chilling story.

What a poignant memory T... The first time I visited Israel I remember thinking that the people in the streets were cold and rude... they just pushed me aside with a "Shliha" ( Excuse me) as if I were not there... After coming home Iand having thought about it I realized it was not coldness or rudness... that actually after one got to know them, Israelies were  and caring ... but they live and have lived for a long time on the verge of dissaster... they have been through many wars and any minute ( specially back then when I first went ) a bomb could explode next to them and they or a loved one could die... anyone could be carrying explosives... its a terrible way to live and yet they manage  so what if the tension does show in the surface... is what is inside that counts :-)  Your story illustrated for me that "living on the edge of fear" feeling... Truly I think the Israelies are an amazing people.   xoxoxo
