I seem to remember from Catholic school that we prayed upwards :-)  G-d was up in heaven and it seemed the right thing to do to look up as we prayed ... perhaps that was just a little girl thing :-)  Great post my friend ... very interesting.  Thanks xoxoxo

I love reading your theology themed entries. They are showing a lot about you.

Tzippy
I don't know if it follows a particular religion but I pray inwardly as I believe I am a creation of God and he/she/it resides within me.

Fascinating
I think that the subconsciously recognised truths are often the most profound.  I vaguely recall that churches were always laid out in a certain pattern, but I cannot recall which direction the alter was in

I try to have the Lord on my mind at all time! I speak to Him as though He were a good friend. I agree with you, if one just looks about them, they will see God, the Creator! Excellent post, too! And here is a link for  Part 3  sam

Good Post
I really don't know but the Jews pray toward the East, we Christians look to the return of Christ and he will come into the Eastern Gate. I pray whenever I think to all day and I may be going in any direction. Usually I am praying because I need direction. Yes there is but one God, since he is everywhere, always present and all knowing I can hardly see how it could make a difference. As for the Muslims and their praying toward Mecca because it is Holy to them, I think there is no place Holy where there is any symbol held greater than God.

T-Zippy when I rise in the morning and I write my morning meditation, I look to the East to find the sun rising ~ and towards the evening when I'm beginning to settle down for the day - the Sun leaves in the West --- but all day long I look around and up and yes, even here at your words --- and I see God and His love ~  This was a beautiful post T ~  Elyse

Interesting post ...I am with Taps with my answer.
No one can talk someone into belief....faith is.

but none of that is proof that God did all that, I am one of those that question his existance, and  I grew up going to church every Sunday

No Tzippy, that is the  answer that I have. I pray to God anytime, anywhere and seeing in him all those things that you mentioned. As I believe  God has no north, south, east or west. I carry him in my heart. I believe too that as one of his creation, every religion has a place on earth. This is how I think and act. There are like you said so many contradictory views on religion. No one should be coerced into thinking that one religion is above the other. We stand for God and for all humanity. I read the bible everyday - just so the Lord can speak to me and he does and todays message would you believe for me was from Romans 12:9 - Behave like a Christian. Thanks so much for your visit and your lovely comment and sharing this wonderful piece.

Interesting post.  My answer to your last question for myself is "no."  Since I believe that God is everywhere, I feel it doesn't matter which way I face when I am praying or sleeping.
