I've had MANY dogs & cats. My smartest dog was a doxy named Cleo.
It has been nearly thirty years since Cleo died, but I see her and her companion Patra in my dreams often. In a strange kind of lucid dreaming, I do the math and wonder how my dogs can possibly still be alive after the 42 years, since they came into my life. I'll always miss Cleo. She was a bitch in every sense of the word, but she was always devoted to me, fearless, adventurous, and headstrong. She and I shared many adventures, cross-country travels, and she always seemed to understand what I wanted, as though she actually was telepathic. In her last years, she became totally deaf, but I didn't realize this fact, for an unknown amount of time, because of her natural ability to read my body language and mannerisms. Such remarkable animals only come along once per lifetime, if that. Thanks for making me think of Cleo again. If I'm lucky, maybe she will show up in my dreams again, tonight. I hope she will, even though these visits are always bittersweet because I always must awaken to her absence.
