I never saw one of those machines it looks barbaric eeeeks
My sister used to give me a home perm...dreadful frizzy thing that it was.She had beautiful natural curls I so longed for but the perm never made me look like her.

I never have been, but when I was little, I used to go to the beauty parlor with my mom when she was being permed. I would watch in horror declaring that I would never do that. Then I would sit and wait and look at all of the magazines that we didn't get at home. Once when I was there, there was a big comotion outside the front window. A woman in a pink turban hat had jaywalked crossing to the Beauty parlor and had been hit by a car. She was lying in the street and people were gathering. I watched until an ambulance came and took her away. Mom was really upset that I was witnessing all of that, but she couldn't get out of the machine to come get me away. I dreamed of a pink turban lady lying in the street for months.
