It is still insurance and that is what is wrong with it
See my article on
Economics of Medicine or ask someone like the good rector whether it makes sense to have
any kind of insurance, public or private, getting between doctors and their patients.
Nor does it make sense to reform health insurance in order to provide medical care to all Americans. We already have the capability of providing medical care for free to every resident in this country, but we have to leave insurance out of it. If you read my article, you will see that its very existence inflates medical charges. In fact, the medical charges -- these are not costs, but prices -- which insurance inflates are themselves unnecessary to the practice of medicine. Indeed, most of what has been written about health care is absolute rubbish because the model is all wrong.
Medicine is not a business; a business model does not apply. Medicine is a local public service, a preventative and emergency service along the lines of that provided by the police and the fire departments. This is not to say, as some have said in objection, that doctors should be paid the same as firefighters or police officers. Those who hold to the business model of medicine and who raise this objection should expect objections that doctors would be paid the price of an apple or a wing nut each time they are seen. After all, apples and wing nuts are products.
Real reform, then, will only come to medicine in the United States through municipal medical departments. There is no alternative. With states the size of European countries, and many bigger, a medical care delivery system based at the state level, let alone the federal level, would be unwieldy and bureaucratic, as well as unnecessary. A local medical department under the control of and accountable to the local community would provide the responsive and personal care that many Americans remember receiving from their family physicians prior to insurance control of medicine, and which many Europeans receive at their neighborhood clinics. And just as special needs in police and fire work are addressed by cooperative, county and state agencies, so can specialized medical care be provided by shared services and facilities available from neighboring or higher levels of government, e.g. as the county tuberculosis hospitals did.

I can't imagine how awful it must be to have to stump up cash before you get treated. Over here, if you need treatment, you get it. Of course, everyone moans about the NHS, but actually it's brilliant.

Cheer up.
At least your detractors did not quote such reliable and truthful sources as Glenn, Rush, and Sarah to disprove the facts from the White House on health care and insurance reform. Now that would have really made me bust a gut laughing.

ditto what I told Corbin
produce your proof
show where they are wrong.
I thought that was what intelligent discourse consisted of -- not name calling and innuendo
