You have said a lot here. Long before I was a nurse, I had noticed this about most doctors and nurses. During the year my son was fighting cancer and toward the end of that year when he was dying in the oncology department of a great hospital, I felt like you do here. I didn't know what to ask or who to ask and felt that they looked upon me as unworthy of any time spent explaining because I wouldn't understand anyway. When I was a nurse, I remembered this and tried to make a difference.

Re: Often people forget that a kind and acknowledging word
I believe you are entirely correct, and that is why some healers who fail to appreciate it have fallen from healers to fixers.

Often people forget that a kind and acknowledging word
and most importantly tone takes no longer than an officious tone. And am I quite sure that giving people short shrift
puts some people on shaky ground and in some cases mean they end up back in hospital making them even busier.
That kind word, that ensuring people are at ease with what they need to do is an investment in healing.
I'll stop or i'll start ranting

I could not agree more. WE are not things to fix and personally if you cannot give a valid reason or explanation I am not likely to show enthusiasm and blind obedience. Walls are sometimes the protection we need to keep ourselves intact. Good rant!
