That's good you can help your dad out, and I'm sure it takes some pressure off of him.

This first hand account of the challenges of running...
a small business in today's environment are at once touching & inspirational to others. It is one thing to say that small businesses are the backbone of our economy, and quite another to collectively create an environment supportive of small businesses. My kudos to your Dad and to you. It is the unsung heroes like you that the rest of us need to emulate for society to prosper. Best wishes and rest assured that better days lie ahead for all of us! - Ash

The more important elements of Life evidence themselves in their
proper time, my friend...the obstacle (if one chooses to label a situation) of money and how to hold on to fraying edges carries so much less importance than what rests within the Heart...if I may throw this in, go with your Dad's foresight and trust that things will turn for the better...everything will run course as fate will have it...

Best advice I can give you and your family is to budget your money for a period of time until this bad situation improves.  I was in this situation two years ago, I budgeted my money, disciplined myself, and purchased only necessary things. The results? I got rid of debt with hard work, planning, and wise spending. Banks are now lining up to give me more credit and personal and business loans. Good Luck and let us know of any improvements. If you persist, things will get better, they always do.

So glad the hip replacement will go ahead. You're such a great family - supporting and helping each other out, even when it means hardship for yourself.
