Libertarian
My Lib views are always morphing.  My belief in the free market is this:  Open, unfettered capitalism for the things we wantfair apportionment and yes, government (US) control for the things we need.  I think ruthless capitalism is OK for the best plasma screen tv.  I don't think medical care should only go to the highest bidder.

Re: National health care
The need for national health care??  That certainly doesn't sound very "Libertarian"...

National health care
I know 3 Canadians living in the US.  All are middle-class (in income).  Not a single one of them would relinquish their Canadian citizenship.  Primary reason? They don't want to give up their health care there.  Whenever I hear an American bashing foreign health care systems (usually, almost always, with no personal knowledge of it at all) I remember conversations with these friends.

We pay taxes to pay for a military that consumes 1/4 of our budget to prevent the highly unlikely event of a foreign military threat.  Yet we can't "afford" national healthcare, when almost every one of us will need medical care at some time. It doesn't make sense.

Canada...
Has "universal" health care, one drawback is the waiting list.  Canadians have a saying, "if you want free health care, stay in Canada.  If you need health care now, go to the U.S. and pay for it."  The health care undustry should be nonprofit.  One other thing I wonder, could I just pay those reduced fees the insurance companies negotiate?

Every system has drawbacks, mostly of the human kind.

Good things have ruined by human greed one way or another.

This probably be no exception.

But, looking at the present state of health care, it should solve many of the problems we see and bring about a more secure system.
