ZenMom, yes it was filmed in India
and all what you saw as real and true.  No exaggeration, I assure you.  Often, its worse.

Chilitree, I am so sorry to read this
please do not consider it a failure.  Whatever it was, it was a learning.  We learn from failure, more than success.  Just decide to risew above.  And, a 1000 welcomes back.  Hugs.

Like the films Cidade de Deus and Peixote from Brasil, Greenfields.
They hurt the citizens of a country, to have to look at what they have been comfortably ignoring, but someone has to place reality on their screens periodically and when world attention is drawn to a vision, then the people in that country can no longer walk by and refuse to see.

Cidade de Deus, God's City, a new housing development built to remove poor from their mountain top slums and place them outside of the city and sight of Rio's citizen's, then it was abandoned to rot in hell.

It comes with subtitiles in English.

Then there is" Peixote", Big Fish, peixe (PAY shee) meaning handsome fellow in my old days, but it could also be a big fish in a larger pond, dunno. About a little boy who is brutalized by horrendous poverty and violence back in the 70's and 80's and who learns to survive, much to the horror of those who must deal with him.

I found no trailer for that old art film, but it was also subtitled. Both were big international hits, making Brasil pay attention to itself and its people and children.

My husband and I saw this film and we loved it. You are right.......the "message" it delivers is powerful. I understand it was filmed in India. The piles of trash and the children picking through them........this was sobering.

I saw this film and hold a similar view to you
I think the people who feel sensitive about it do not see that audiences are discerning enough to work out how it is real and which parts are just the movies. In other words they take it too seriously, and yet it is an important movie.

Hello.
Thank you my friend...it is great to be back. 2008 was a dark year for me...with a marriage destroyed by lack of sanity ... lack of love. But I am emerging from the dark valley of depression and failure, and looking at better days... I will try and get hold of the movie u speak of. Much love to you.

There's been a lot of favorable publicity about the film here in Denmark and I intend to go and see it when I get the opportunity.

Thank you for this post.

Somehow, what you tell us about it reminds me of the book, " City of Joy," which was an absolute page-turner+ couldn't be put down. Then I made the BIG mistake of going to the movie( supposedly made from the book,) and it was awful.

I love to read about the struggle of poor, underpriviledged people anywhere. We, in the West, have no idea what real poverty is.

Thanks again.
