Talion, time plays its funny games here in the cyberworld...

I agree, the only way to make Blogit professionally useful is to spend a tremendous amount of time with it, both writing and reading and commenting.  Whe I started here, it was with the hope of establishing a 'platform' that would help me market my writing in the mainstream publishing world.

What I have gotten mostly, though, is community: some excellent mental stimulation and inspiration from time to time, much emotional support personally, when I have needed and reached out for it, and great encouragement to write and present, and go more professional with all my creative efforts.

Through all those things, since joining in 2005, I have built some 'platform' to show a publisher, in numbers of clicks and quality if not quantity of response.

In some ways, I appreciate Blogit very much; in other ways, it has been disappointing.

The immediacy of blogging is a double-edged sword. Recieving instant feedback via comments is wonderful, but too often, you're only as good as your most recent post. A blog posting is like fish. It's great if it's "fresh," but leave it laying around too long and it stinks. That's the only thing I dislike about this medium. For those of us who take time and effort with our offerings, yet suffer with time constraints, establishing a wider audience is difficult, if not impossible.

Re: Ceil...
Yes, even some days, I have to go to 'most favorites.'  I often read back in blogs of people whose stories are compelling, sometimes going all the way to the beginning, to read all they have shared here on Blogit.

A merry Robbie Burns Day, Naut!

Please enjoy my share of the scotch...  I am going tosip just a bit of Royal Oporto from a very small glass...

Maybe because of the emotional yoyo effect, at least in part, I don't always comment the first time I read.  Sometimes, often, it's a quick response to a particular element of the item.  Now and then I have to go post a second response because I missed another point the first time.  My initial responses are generally pretty superficial.

If I feel the need to make a more considered response, I need to think a while, and come back later.

Re: There is a lot to read on blogit...

Yes, this is true... and I sometimes wish that we had a way to know, besides comments, who has read an item.

My routine is to go first to Write then to New Comments, then, if it is first thing in the morning, I go to see how many pennies came in overnight.  Then I go either to comment on comments, or to Favorites...  And sometimes, I browse randomly to find new writers to read.

Now and then, I will get curious about a writer, or a reference in a post, and go back down the line, sometimes a page or two.  But I like the idea of using Search more.

Ceil...
There is way more than any one person can read, even if you stick to old favorites.  Sometimes I get a comment from a blog I've forgotten about, so some do go back into the archives, but not very many.

Yes, there really is some excellent writing here, and much that stimulates and is thought-provoking.

But there is something else - I sometimes find myself being sent on an emotional roller coaster! Much against my will I have become attched to this place and some of the people here, and when I read of someone's troubles it affects me. Then I go on to the next blog, which may be funny and demands a different response - but I can't respond properly, because I am just not agile enough emotionally...I don't know if this makes sense, but I wonder whether you and others have had that experience...

BTW, it's Robbie Burns Day today, and I am sucking on some excellent single malt scotch...

There is a lot to read on blogit...
...so we have to pick and choose what we can fit into our busy schedules.
The more comments you get, the more people you have to read and respond to, which can get pretty taxing.
But, you're absolutely right...there are excellent writers of all stripes here, you being one of them.
I was just musing, earlier today, how I can search the blogs and find a post written on just about any subject I would want to read about.
As an aside, one way to tell if anyone's read your posts is to click "write" and look at the "page views."
I've found that many more people read my posts than actually comment on them.
Excellent post, Ciel.
