WONDERFUL!
I can see every detail of this poem in my mind's eye, the mark of a great poet in my opinion. I am always drawn to the imagery of poems like these. And the so touching image of the cardinal's vigil over its mate really affected me. A favorite of mine, though I am a fan of all your work! -Bruce

Love the colour contrast of grey and red.  Excellent comparison of the sun and red cardinals. Well done!

Re:
Thank you! I'm sure you have some very beautiful birds that we don't have here. In my opinion, the cardinals are stunning.

This is great - you should write more free verse! We don't have cardinals over here, so it's terrific for me to be able to read about them and picture them from your verse.

Re:
You know, i don't think I've ever seen cardinals teach their young. I've seen other birds teach their babies to fly, which I absolutely love watching, but never a cardinal.

Cardinals are my favorite! I had a bird feeder outside my window when I lived in Michigan and it was so fun to watch them teach their ones to fly! sam

Re:
Don't you just love them? They are especially awesome on bare winter branches.

Poor little things.  We have lots of cardinals around here.  They are always seen in pairs.  One couple comes here to feed every day.  At least I think it is the same pair all the time.  Across the road in the woods you can see a lot of them, and hear them sing.

Re: Betsy
Why thank you very much. It was such an obvious event and one that was so sad. We have thought of it several times. What lovely committment.
