It's nice to give credit where it is due.  That Ciel is a real thinker. Keep up the great work and Happy Holidays

wow! i have finally found the blog i needed to, but the 'time' is so wrong!

after athe nasty day i've had, the only tangible thing my lay person's perspective sees in 'time' is that, means have been formulated to measure it. in that sense it is quantifiable and by that extent, it is scientific.

but since i do not understand anything much beyond basic science (however fascinating the un-understood part is) here's what my rather abstract thinking (i won't say 'perspective', because that would be giving my thoughts too much weight) on 'time' is.

on one level, to me time is a happenning.

as abstract as that. it is that mile stone by which i refer to events that have occured, to aid the comprehension of what i do. someone said something about sequential- again that to me is a process towards setting up and continuing civilisation, bringing in a decorum, a diktat by which to remember things gone, consider things ongoing and plan for things to come. apron strings that keep us bound to something that we can understand and lean to. a comfort toy. i do something wrong and more wrong happens, i've timed it badly.

the contrary is never true

on another level, it is a state of being.

at the risk of repeating others' thoughts and even expressions, i'm gonna go anyhow.

i had a nasty day today- my 'time' was bad. my best friend is going through a divorce - how bad a time is he suffering? a young cousin has just had a baby girl (she is gorgeous!) - she is having a 'time' of her life! the look on her mother's face - timeless! did the father get to be there? just in time. were the family happy? quite timely, thank god!

naut, the state i am in, i could keep the ramble all night. i think you get the drift...

as you can see, this is enticing! you have me properly hooked to this!! keep them coming :)

Well, it is about time I found my way here...

Thanks for the link, Naut--I was looking for your response in the wrong place... Something to do with the length of the staff and my incomplete copy of the headpiece of Ra...

Speaking of which, movie time is also another take on the passage of time, or rather, our perceptions of it.

I think time is a word for the occurance of change, sequential in the physical world, regardless of whether we take note of it, or note it with any accuracy.  Things do change, the earth does move, galaxies fly through the heavens; entropy happens, and as it happens, we are here, where it used to be dinosaurs, to experience it.

The Grand Canyon is pretty strong evidence that time happens, regardless of our presence or awareness.

Naut, when you say science is about measurement, I have to add that is it also about proof, as the absolutely necessary prerequisite to knowledge: humanity's magnificent attempt to make the universe less confusing.

My dad, the scientist, used to say--when I suggested he should have some faith in me, I forget what about--"Who needs faith? I've got knowledge!"  Which was also, though perhaps he didn't notice it, a statement of the limitations of science, because the fact is, he really didn't have enough knowledge of me to entirely forego the faith.

Mind boggling it is when one tries to sort it all out.   I think we are "time" oriented because it is comforting to us.  Without time being our explanation and our excuse, how would we explain our wrinkles and our flapping oxters and our bald heads?

Ummm...
What about daylight saving time?  And all the time I have spent changing the clocks. It's now isn't it?

I concur and still believe that time is a concept to pacify man! Shelly

Time is so intriguing to me, as I wrote about it , myself
not too long ago...I checked out your blog series, also. Very interesting. The universe is confusing, that's what makes it so interesting!
