Any type of computer activity can be addicting...
...but, I've learned to be more aware of the passing of time while on the computer, otherwise I'd get nothing else done.

Very interesting.  I've never done such as that, but I can still get really caught up in a good book.  Sometimes I've read all night long to get to the end and solve the mystery of what's going on.

Hey - Ciel - did you ever read this short story by Cory Doctorow? http://www.authorama.com/andas-game-1.html

I first read it in the New Yorker, and then in the Best Short Stories of, I think, 2003 or 2004.  It was my own introduction to this kind of pastime.  Mal

Idiots abound in all worlds,
and there are plenty of social-inepts in game worlds especially.  They tend to be very good players but not great playmates.

I don't really know why I have never felt a desire for taking part in any of these games. For one thing, there was always something I had to read...I did play chess on the net for a while, made a few friends in the process, and even found an old acquaintance from my undergraduate days. But there were many idiots as well, and I have pretty well given up on the whole thing...

I've never played, but I bet I would get hooked.
