Thanks. Maybe the banks help with the paper work, and sneak in a charge for that service. I'm pretty sure the applicants wouldn't notice.

I agree. That's why I keep telling my son you can't require graduate entrance exams as part of the voter registration process. He's not quite convinced.

If we had to qualify to vote based on anything but citizenship, age,
and having registered, I think we would have bigger problems than having to recount. As a Washington State resident, though, where we didn't know who was governor for weeks after the previous election, and multiple recounts, I understand your frustration.
