To that I would add very stiff courses in civics and history. Out of curiosity: Is "Cry Me a River" in your repetoire?

Corbin:  to some here, cry me a river.  The reason the country is in a financial mess is because the majority of people are uninformed and ignorant of how money and finances works.

Re: by your logic, the best minimum wage is nothing -- that way everybody can
Xeno-x, explain to everyone how increasing a minimum wage will better people's financial situation.  The last I heard, when a business's expenses increase, prices increase.  What good is an extra dollar in your paycheck when everything costs more because of that extra dollar in your paycheck?????  All it does is make people feel better about the number on their paycheck.  What good is having more money when that money can't buy what it could before you got the increase?

Writer......
You're never going to get an answer to or  comment on  your actual point.....they only see the buzz phrase "Minimum Wage" and react by shooting from the hip.....

Republicans don't want people to make a career of a minimum wage job....but requiring small business to pay a Minimum of $10 an hour will mean that fewer people will work and those that do will have to work harder to make up for the diminished job base.......

The hip shot regarding big corporations is absurd......the big national companies that have people working at minimum wage is more scarce than a Liberal that understands our economic system.....

Everyone in America needs to take an economics course.
if minimum wage goes up, prices go up and/or unemployment goes up.   If taxes go up, prices go up and/or unemployment goes up.   This is how it works.  Kind of like 2 + 2 = 4.

by your logic, the best minimum wage is nothing -- that way everybody can
be employed -- right?

We don't want people getting out of poverty now do we?

what we want is a tremendous work force making profits for employers

just like in the 19th Century.  low wages, no benefits, no safety on the jobs, no age limits, no time off for anything.

good thing Henry Ford didn't take this stance -- nobody would be driving cars and the auto companies would no be as successful as they are.  I will explain later if you are too dense to understand.

Not Quite
Actually, it is possible to raise the minimum wage and increase jobs.  Some states already have minimun wages that high, or laws to raise them there.  Massachusetts, for example.  And most entry-level jobs now pay more than minimum wage, so the impact of raising the minimum won't be all that great.  I'm not convinced it's a good idea, or that we can afford either proposal, but it could certainly be done without contradiction.

I appreciate your reasonably well written post. I shall think more about it, but I instinctively come from the opposite point of view.
