- Go to Alas poor Monty
Perhaps Monty faired the best, decent burial and all. Wonderfully entertaining. sam

Laughing merrily here...!
This reminds me of James Thurber's story (to be found in the collection THE THURBER CARNIVAL) called "the Dog That Bit People." It was a dog beloved by Thurber's mother, and hated by everyone else. She was the only one the dog never bit-- and the story is not unlike the tale of Monty. It ends pretty much the same way.
When the Dog That Bit People was laid to rest, a small marker with a Latin inscription was erected to ease the heart of Mrs Thurber. The inscription was--'CAVE CANEM' which--for anyone else who, like Mrs Thurber, speaks no Latin, means: BEWARE OF THE DOG.
