Okay, here's what my husband says about your sheep...
He grew up in Maryland and his folks kept around 50 sheep on their 13 acres so it would be taxed as a farm instead of as an estate--this, less than 20 miles out of Washington, D.C. So I asked him about your visitor's behavior.
He says, "Well, it could be sick, it could be well, it could be full. Maybe it's sleepy. Of course, it might be a ram: Rams behave very differently from ewes out in the field." (He is a ram out lying in his field...) I asked how you can tell if its a ram. He informs me that they have enormous testicles.
So, there you are.
He also told a story about some soft-hearted soul who got concerned about a rather raggedy-looking sheep in their 13 acres, and kidnapped it to take it to a vet, thinking they must be abusing the poor thing. She was upset that there was something wrong with its teeth, too.
The vet examined the sheep and explained to her that this one was around 16 years old, something like 150 human years, and she should look so good at that age, furthermore, sheep (and goats) have no upper teeth. (Or is it no lower teeth?--It has been a long time, and while we knew once, we have forgotten. Anyway, they don't have them.)
