I like your thoughts on the cord-crunching antics of poor old Hamish. One of the archaeologists did refer to rope-making as being the possible cause. I'll keep you posted!

Mined both with relatives and ancestors!
We're trying to figure out what occupation would create that kind of tooth wear pattern, and I'm thinking, twisting cord out of leather or some fibre, held in the teeth while being twisted..

I like your description
of the area being heavily mined with relatives. I think it must be like that for many in the Hebrides. I once hitchhiked on Lewis, and recall being picked up by the same person on the way to, and from, the beach. The dig sounds very exciting.
