Great anecdote
Hey that was touching and so true... especially the bit about God's three types of answers to prayers. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for this, EX_TURPI. It made my day.
It made me remember where I was on a September morning in 1960--in the hospital. I was six months pregnant and also with an ovarian cyst that was filling with fluids so quickly that I was in more pain than I could stand. When the Doc said that he was going to have to operate NOW and that the baby would not live, I told him to just cut my head off in surgery. But, God knew better. That baby, born at Christmas time, is my oldest son, now almost 48 years old and I had three more sons afterward without any problem at all.

Very nice. Such things happen, and it's wonderful that your heroine
never found out who her benefactor was. That way she could be open and full of joy to everyone, because anyone could have been her kind and thoughtful friend. I once gave a hundred dollars to our student worker in an anonymous envelope with a "pay it forward" message. He had been morose and worried, but after that he felt taken care of and safe among us, and none of us had any idea who'd given him the cash. It turned out to be a gift to myself.
