And mousehop, it's also very interesting that Obama has received the second highest (approx $122,000) amount from Fannie and Freddy of any of the Senate as thanks for supporting the fraudulent policies of F&F.  You sure there weren't any lobbyists involved in buying votes from Obama on behalf of Fannie and Freddy?  I'm sure McCain should have/could have chosen a better candidate with less influence from lobbyists, but it would seem that both sides are, to varying degrees, tainted in some way.

Re: Re: BUT THE REPUBLICANS DID IT!!! -- THIS SHOWS HOW LITTLE YOU NOTICE
We libertarians blame both, but we know it is the Republicans who drive deregulation, and we know that the seeds of this financial meltdown were planted long before the Democrats retook Congress.  And McCain's campaign chairman worked for the lobbying firm that fought off all attempts to increase regulations on Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac until he went to work for McCain.  And McCain has been denouncing increased regulation throughout his campaign, until now.  So how much credibility does he have on this?

Re: Re: Re: economy
She didn't have to offer an explanation.  But she did.  And it doesn't match reality.  I call that a lie.

Or maybe she believed what she said.  So she fired a guy without checking the actions of her own office into the matter.  Which is really, really poor judgment.  Take your pick.  Either way, she's not looking good on this.

Re: BUT THE REPUBLICANS DID IT!!! -- THIS SHOWS HOW LITTLE YOU NOTICE

Excuse me, xenox, but of course Demos are blaming Republicans for lack of regulation.  Typical politics.  But even folk like Senator Schumer of NY voted against increased regulation.

Yes, I see that Ben Stein has been on the circuit to promote his new book.  i don't know much about him, but I did hear a smidgen of him on Fox and found that he might as well have been supporting Obama.

You Demos conveniently forget that you've had a majority for the past two years during which the economy has tremendously worsened.  In cases like this, I guess it's good to have short term memory deficits.

BUT THE REPUBLICANS DID IT!!! -- THIS SHOWS HOW LITTLE YOU NOTICE
1933 -- midst of the Great Depression.l  FDR and Congress enact regulation on Savings & Loans, Banks,Lending INstitutions, etc., in order to avoid another such disaster.

Fast forward to the late 20th and early 21st centuries, in which Republicans lift thses regulations.  First, Savings and Loans (as far as I know) disappear entirely off the face of the financial scene.

Now (and a prominent conservative, Ben Stein, stated so on Sunday Morning yesterday), because of the lifting of regulations by the Republican administrations and congresses, we have our present crisis, the worst since the Great Depression.

What I hope is that people wise up, as they did in 1932, and turn Republicans out of the White House and Congress en masse, effectively signing the death knell for that party.

It has harmed our country enough.

Re: Re:

Corbin, it must have been one of those extremely unscientific polls that folks and their cronies can go and click on over and over.  Either that, or they send out text messages recommending that people go to CNN's poll and vote to skew the results.  Yeah, I believe the results, don't you???

Also very glad that you were feeling better the next day.  What a difference a day makes. I'm glad!!

Re: Re: economy

mousehop, from what i've heard she did not lie about firing the Safety commissioner.  You forget that the commissioner and the cabinet serve at the will of the governor and he/she can hire and fire at will.  She should not even have to explain why it occurred.

As for Republicans claiming credit . . . I've mentioned this to Kooka and I'll say it to you -- it goes both ways.  It's called politics!  And. . . if I remember correctly, Republicans were in power during the Clinton era, so they probably could take credit for good . . . and bad!

Re:
Well, that's easy to answer........it was 78% of CNN's viewers????   Was it an e-mail in or check the box type of poll???  LOL and you typed this with a straight face...right  ROTFLMAO.  And that's not even taking into account CNN's puny viewership.......Nice try!

As of yesterday, CNN had taken a national poll and 78% of viewers lost interest in Palin after having gotten to know her. With Palin's decrease in popularity, comes McCain's decrease as well. We all know the only reason why he was doing so well was because of Palin. Without Palin, nobody wants McCain.

Re: economy
Isn't it funny how Republicans always claim credit for everything that happens under Republican presidents, and everything good under Clinton's presidency, but blame Democrats for everything bad, regardless of who is president?

I do blame Clinton for some of the current economic mess, and certainly Congress has done little to start repairing all the damage done by Bush and the Republican leadership before they took back Congress.  I intend to keep the pressure on them after Obama wins and Democrats solidify their hold on the House and Senate.

As for dirty closets, I think Obama's has pretty well been explored, and he's still standing tall.  Examination of Palin is just beginning, and look what we've found already?  Lying about why she fired her Safety Commisioner?  Saying a trip was unauthorized when the document has her Chirf of Staff's signature on it?  Maybe she just didn't know; but wouldn't that say something about her leadership skills?  As if her extreme positions weren't enough to toss her out.

JanesO
I wanted to thank you for your comment on the evening meditation blog last night.......I feel so much better this morning. My discomfort is gone and I can put my full weight on my leg without any discomfort......I've been moving about with one crutch....using it on my good side and walking directly on the damaged one......I am really happy with this development!

It's odd how the mending process seems to have switches that turn on....and suddenly you can accomplish a higher lever of exertion.....thanks for your thoughtful prayers......

economy

The left never blames their lovely congress for helping to perpetuate the war they're so against and they don't seem to blame the housing/loan crisis for any of the bad economy. Bush is their scapegoat for their own personal misery.

If you bring up something the leftist congress does, they will always bring it back to Bush whether it's true or not. The leftist media has convinced the public that McCain is Bush and so goes the story. Obama's closet is way dirtier than Palins but they will continue to attack her while he gets funded from the worst commies on the planet.

beg your pardon, troubledwriter,
but Bush inherited the Clinton bubble, and economic bubbles can only last for so long. They do not continue in perpetuity.  And then of course there's 9/11 which changed the whole landscape.

People are finally realizing how detrimental the Republicans have been toward our economy. Ever since 2001, the year Bush was elected we have been in a recession. Americans are realizing how effective the democrats were. Before Bush came into office, Bill Clinton, a democrat, inherited a deficit left by another Republican, George Bush Sr., and left was with a surplus. And you're wondering why McCain has shifted in the polls ?!

Re: Re: Regulation and Deregulation
Uh, the president still signs off, doesn't he?  But I agree that Congress hasn't done much.  Mostly just followed George II's lead.  It was George II, after all, that vetoed including some way to pay for the economic stimulus package, which he strongly supported.  The deficit, near record or perhaps a new record, is pretty much George's baby.

Just what are these Huge tax increases?  I must have missed something.

Re: Regulation and Deregulation
Uhhh, mousehop, it's my understanding that the Congress has oversight/gives final approval of the economy.  The Admin might put together its idea of a budget, but the final budget package often looks waaaay different than the original product.  Fact is, according to the Heritage Institute, the Congress has hugely increased taxes and expenditures in the past two years.  Not the President.

Regulation and Deregulation
While I agree that partisan attacks at this time of economic trouble are not helpful, it is hardly surprising.  After all, McCain has been attacking Obama for saying that simple conservation measures would make more difference in gas prices than lifting a ban on drilling for oil in off-shore areas, which, while simplistic and superficial, is accurate.  The rules governing current business activities are largely under the purview of the executive branch, and follow the tendencies of the Bush administration, so Bush gets all the credit.  He deserves it.  Though I admit Bill Clinton did shift some things in this direction, and deserves some blame, too.
