An Excellent Observation and more excellently put into words
You are so right.  In order to adopt the path and teachings of Jesus of rochma and forgiveness, one has to accept responsiblity for one's actions and reactions.  It is much easier to say:"The devil made me do it"(Flip Wilson) and give up our control for change and make ourselves feel better about our own lives as we project our shortcomings onto others. It is always the other person who needs to change to make our life happier.

Good heavens
This must be the most comments any of my articles ever got.  Thanks to everyone here.  It is sad that this seems to be the case in a lot of churches.  I suppose we have to accept that there will be many who walk towards the gate, but few who will actually enter through the eye of this needle.

You are so correct. Very often the one who says nothing but says it appealing enough enthralls the crowd. An old school friend used to say if you convincingly declared that 'things which do not change remain the same', the audience would roar. Think about that.  That is stating the obvious. Yet most great orators made substantial statements.

Personally I fear you conclusion is correct. I have been frightened to pieces by these kinds of preachers in my childhood. But now it is different and I am very comfortable in my faith! sam

So r ight On There
That has been my experience to in watching. Must have been Jesus experience too as he often said if you have ears then listen, but you would rather follow the way of the crowd. Great post and to the point thank you.

I think this is very thought-provoking and seems to be an accurate picture
of what many experience in church and among society.
