No doubt, Big Sis!
I can't believe people don't take these things more seriously. I mean, a storm 600 miles across is clearly not something to play with, so yeah, I have a problem having to g back for them, too.

On the other hand, we get so lathered up about every blow that people get tired of all the hype. Hurricane Hanna became Thunderstorm Hanna around here. We got more rain and wind two days later during a random thunderstorm off the lake.

Nonetheless, one can easily see Ike was not something to ignore.

Well said, Krisles. Not having the $$ to leave is another story.
When people take damn fool chances with their lives out of ignorance or arrogance they're just asking for it.  If I were in charge, emergency workers would not risk life and health to pull a dumbass out of harm's way. If they croak they've removed some debris from the gene pool. It's not heard hearted -- it's common sense.

Krisles, I can't imagine people putting their children at risk by not making sure they evacuate them well before the onslaught.  You are right about the rest of it too of course,  but the children should be made safe first and foremost.

Between the issues of Big Brother and common sense in an emergency situation the victims live if they choose to respond, applying the latter ~ BCA, Bill’s Wave

In other situations where folks do not heed warnings are charged for their rescue. One such example is skiing out of bounds in the mountains of my state! So I think they can pay for their foolishness as well. Also unnecessarily risking the lives of others as well. sam

Krisles
Of course, in reality you're not cold hearted at all, and neither am I, although I agree with you absolutely. You're a woman after my own heart, and not just because you're gorgeous...

Krisles...
Well, I was thinking maybe each rescued person ought to pony up 50 thou, so you don't sound as cold hearted as I sound.  But how else are these people supposed to be reached?  My vote is for the pocketbook, no ignores damage to thier bank account now do they?
