I agree
all we can be is ourselves! And we sometimes fail to realize how wonderful 'ourselves' really are

Your true colours will eventually shine through.
Since I moved house I decided to only bring the things that I loved. No more ugly vases to please aunt this or uncle that. If I get a gift I do not like I will thank them for the generousity and the warm thought of giving me this gift, but that it is not for me. If it can't be returned I would like them to give it to someone who will appreaciate it.
It was hard at first and I did step one or two on the toes, but now they know. And I have even got the same response back. It is just such a waste to be holding on to things to please others.

Sometimes we try to read others just to see what they want from us...
then try to be that to get their approval: a symptom of Borderline Personality syndrome: it's a struggle to get off that bus, to learn to know and present yourself as you are, as what you want to be. There was a story in Ray Bradbury's MARTIAN CHRONICLES about such a person, one who literally became anyone he met. He did very poorly in a crowd.
