Bel
Although my “story” differs considerably from your there was a time in my life when I would have like to have just closed my eyes.  The challenges began to feel so overwhelming.  But, like you, I found the remaining ounce of positive attitude within me and began to build on it.  And with each day I grew stronger.  Fast forward 10 years and I was able to retire comfortably at 52, I married a wonderful man at 50, I recently moved into a lovely home, my 24 year old daughter who fell into alcoholism is now 9 months clean and sober and still fully engaged in her recovery program, and there’s happiness in the air.  Life is good but sometimes we have to scrape ourselves up from the floor to find that out. Thanks for sharing your story with us...

Bel...
I, too, had a similarly troublesome childhood, and you're absolutely right in implying that happiness is still an option that we can choose for ourselves.
Where most people fail in that regard, I believe, is that they think happiness should come naturally, without effort, but, as you and I both have learned, happiness is something we give to ourselves when we structure our lives to be conducive to positive energies.
I could go on and on, but, I'll spare you. Great post!

Bel, we always have that choice every morning..to embrace the day and
come at it with a positive attitude and resolving to keep it positive, or pull the covers over our head (so to speak), and go about the day thinking negatively...reminds me of "as a man or woman think, that is the way they will be" - Bible paraphrased).....

I like your spirit! You have been through a lot, but you're doing fine! As Nietzsche says, "What doesn't break me makes me stronger!"
