jems, I am manic depressive and I remember one morning, walking into
my best friend's house, I hung out there too much as my house just killed me, and her boyfriend said, or rather, asked, " What terrible, horrible absolutely shitty thing happened to you since we last saw you yesterday, A?"
He asked it affectionately, but he was tired of my whining and inactivity in the solution department. I never whined so much over there after that and tried to find other things to do....it hurt me but motivated me....I have never forgotten it, however.
So, your story sounds a little similar, but different.
Communicating, good.

You should both be proud of yourselves!
How many situations that begin like this end with someone quitting or in the downward spiral of resentment and hurt?
Congratulations!

I am glad you both feel differently now
That's good. Perhaps don't look back to much. Acknowledge it and just move forward.
