i know  i am loathe to not try and enjoy my perceived good fortune as I am loathe to cry over that which appears bad

Words to live by I suppose
Sometimes in the moment we think we are living at the height of expectations and other times trapped in experience we can not get out.  Perhaps we should take this less to heart and experience the situation for what it is.  Just a chance to learn something.

Complete agreement
I agree completely.  "Good" and "bad" are all about perception... I have worked hard to teach my children this in the context of not judging people, and use my brother (who is a bit of a thug, yet still an amazing human being) as an example:  "Is your uncle a good guy, or a bad guy?"  Of course they say he's a good guy; he plays rough games and introduces them to other things their parents don't always approve of, so they think he's great!  Then I say, since they know he's done some jail time, "Do the police think he's a good guy, or a bad guy?"  Gets the point across pretty well.
